The factors which determine a lesion are of its borders, colour, texture, induration and quantity. The history of the patient followed by clincial examination determines the approach to diagnosis. The diagnostic approach is based on the patient’s medical history and clinical examination in conjunction with investigations. A protocol must be formed in order to provide a perfect methodology for assessment of oral and maxillofacial pathologies in an orthodontic patient. In this narrative review article, we describe the oral and maxillofacial lesions encountered in orthodontic practice.
