Abstract

The Thane-Belapur MIDC industrial belt in Maharashtra has been a critical hub for manufacturing and industrial activities since its establishment in the 1960s. Despite its economic significance, the region has increasingly experienced labour unrest manifested through strikes, protests, wage disputes, and other forms of industrial action. These disruptions adversely impact productivity and the socio-economic welfare of workers. This study investigates the underlying causes of labour unrest in Thane-Belapur MIDC, analyzing economic, organizational, socio-political, and infrastructural factors contributing to industrial disputes. Using a mixed-method approach involving surveys, interviews, and secondary data analysis, the research identifies key drivers of conflict and their consequences on industries and labour communities. The study culminates in recommendations aimed at improving industrial relations and ensuring sustainable growth in the region.
